Der Name "DILMAN" bezieht sich auf das alte türkische Wort dilmanç oder dilmaç, welches über das Ungarische (tolmács) Einzug ins Deutsche (Dolmetscher) gehalten hat. Ähnliche Wortformen gibt es im Kroatischen (tumač), im Polnischen (tłumacz) und im Tschechischen (tlumočník). Dabei bedeutet das türkische Wort dil, Sprache. Durch den regen Kontakt mit europäischen Staaten und die Expansionspolitik des Osmanischen Reiches in Richtung Balkan und Europa wurde der Beruf des Dolmetschers erstmalig etabliert. So hat es auch ins Deutsche seinen Einzug gefunden. Heute verwendet man im Türkischen das arabische Wort tercüman oder neuer çevirmen. |
